Finagra - Sociedade Industrial e Agrícola, SA The company was founded on 27 September 1973. Mr. Joaquim Bandeira and Dr. José Alfredo Parreira Holtreman Roquette purchase the Herdade do Esporão estate, beginning the winemaking Project. In 1987, Finagra builds its own winery to produce and market high quality wines. In March 1992, Dr. José Alfredo Parreira Holtreman Roquette launches a Public Share Offer 100% of the company’s share capital and becomes its majority shareholder, controlling, either directly or through subsidiaries, 97% of Finagra. This ushers in a new phase in the development of the company stretching to the present day. Investment has been made in new projects, of which the most important since 1995 are: the planting of a new vineyard; the renovation of the existing vineyard; the purchase of a majority shareholding in Sociedade Agrícola dos Perdigões, Lda; construction of a reservoir capable of holding 4,000,000 m3 of water; installation of a trickle irrigation system in the vineyard; construction of a wine tourism centre and expansion of the winery’s capacity to enable Finagra to look to the future with optimism. In 1998, Finagra purchases an olive estate in Serpa (and becomes the first company in the sector in Portugal to be certified to ISO 9002) and launches Herdade do Esporão Virgin Olive Oils. In the following year, it extends the winery with the construction of two warehouses for finished products and an olive pressing plant. Towards the end of 2000, pursuing its policy of reviving Alentejo traditions, Finagra acquires two cheesemaking plants, and in 2001 launches Herdade do Esporão cheeses. |
